•Get in Shape & Enjoy Vacationland, all on a tight budget.
Apr 14, 2009 – Augusta - The Bicycle Coalition of Maine (BCM) has produced a free,
comprehensive calendar of 2009 Maine bicycle events. The calendar is
available at bicycle shops and sports stores throughout Maine. An online
version may be found at www.BikeMaine.org.
The BikeMaine Event Calendar includes 61 weekly rides, 156 special events
and a listing of Maine bike clubs, organizations and bicycle shops. The
calendar features rides on roads and mountain trails, triathlons, races,
bike driving classes and bike volunteer opportunities.
"The biking events in the calendar cover all parts of Maine and suit
bicyclists of all fitness levels," said Allison Vogt, BCM's executive
director. "Biking offers an inexpensive way to relax, exercise, spend time
with friends and family and explore our beautiful state."
Rides vary in length from a five-mile Women's Ride for Heart Health in
Freeport on May 31 to the 180-mile Trek Across Maine. Special events
include a Wildflower Tour in Parsonsfield, a Frogs, Logs and Bogs ride in
Bangor, a midnight ride in Orono, Mike's Maine Metric Mountain Mash in
Camden and the Spud Cycle Classic in Fort Fairfield.
Advocating bicycling safety, education and access in Maine since 1992, the
Bicycle Coalition of Maine is working to make Maine accessible and safe for
all residents and visitors so they may comfortably and responsibly bicycle.
The BCM also promotes bicycling for transportation, health, recreation and
fun to enhance our communities, environment and economy.
