Pennell Teacher Reflects on Celebration

Dear Editor,

I spent a nostalgic day at the rededication of Pennell Institute last Saturday. I spent endless hours in that old building as a teacher at Pennell in the late 1970's and 1980's as a grade 6 teacher. I retired, in June, from education after 37 years as a teacher, administrator and educational technology coordinator.

Recently, I have spent time reminiscing and lingered on my Pennell album for the longest time. I had always hoped the Pennell Institute would be refurbished and brought back to life. The old building looked quite grand on Saturday.

I truly enjoyed Saturday, talking to the many of my former students, who shared their memories of their days at Pennell. I would like to thank my former students who placed the brick in the walkway recognizing my years at Pennell. It was heart warming to see my name there, and know these students remembered me fondly after all these decades. As fondly as I remember them!
