Beware an Anti- Hunting Candidate

• State House District 109

Anti-Hunter Candidate:

Hunters and gun owners beware. It seems strange that those who run for political office seem to forget us regular folk. Take for example one ex- member of the North Yarmouth Board of Selectmen and current candidate for Legislature in House District 109.

Recently she reversed a previous vote and opted to ban hunting in that towns Old Town House Park. She even made the motion to ban hunting, which under state statue cannot be done. They could have limited the discharge of firearms but opted to show their bias.

Do we want that kind of anti-hunting and anti-gun person representing us in Augusta? Hunting is a Maine tradition slowly being lost and taken away by similar actions that ignore the facts.. Hunting, by the statistics is safer now than other sports per the American Safety Council. In fact there are way fewer hunting accidents than medical accidents and she should know that because she is a nurse.

North Yarmouth and most probably Gray, New Gloucester and Pownal are overrun with deer. The density is too high according to wildlife biologists. The Maine DOT reports 100 deer/MV collisions in our town for 2001-2008. That represents, by DOT figures, a whopping $380,000 cost to motorists for repairs.

Lyme disease per the DHHS Epidemiologist data shows 716 cases in Cumberland County for the same time period and increasing each year exponentially.

Every hunter and their families need to remember who supports hunting when the next election rolls around. To my way of thinking the danger is too many deer being protected by posted land and not hunters? When done correctly hunting will lessen our MV accidents and Lyme disease incidence in our section of the state, plus adding food to the family table in these tough times.
