In Memoriam
• Reverend Doug Hedstrom
Jun 28, 2010 – By now many have heard that The Reverend Doug Hedstrom passed away suddenly on Saturday, June 19, 2010. For fifteen years, over half of Doug's ministry career, was spent as the pastor of the First Congregational Church, here in Gray. In 2007, Doug answered a call to serve a church in the town of Bristol, New Hampshire. It was while working at a church event last weekend that Doug passed away.
Of course Doug was the pastor of our church and performed all the tasks that the ministry entailed. But Doug was also considered by many to be the a pastor for the town. For those in distress without a church home, Doug was there. Of course you saw him participating in the Memorial Day services and delivering invocations for many public meetings; but he was also involved in Scouting, Habitat for Humanity, and volunteered for many other worthy organizations. And of course, you could also find him with his weekly breakfast group of guys down at Cole Farms.
Doug touched many lives while he was here in Gray, and his passing saddens us all. An ad-hoc committee of the Women's Fellowship of the Gray Congregational Church has undertaken the task to create a Memorial Garden at the church and will be devoting an item (a bench or other similar item) to Pastor Doug's memory in the garden. If you feel led to make a donation in Doug's memory for this endeavor, you may send your donation to the Gray Congregational Church, PO Box 155, Gray, ME 04039, and write Doug Hedstrom memorial in the memo section of your check. For more information, you may also contact Mary Googins through the church office at 657-4279.
