Cumberland County Correction Officer
• Busted for Trafficking Drugs Into the Prison
Feb 3, 2010 – Cumberland County Correction Officer, Toby M. Post, 38 years old of West Gardiner was arrested outside the jail facility but on the jail property, by Sheriff's detectives and agents with the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency.
C/O Post was charged with two felony counts of Trafficking in Prison Contraband. Investigators were able to establish that Post was a middleman in delivering opiate drugs to an inmate in the facility. He was observed taking control of a cache of drugs and was subsequently arrested while bringing the drugs into the facility.
C/O Post has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the conclusion of the internal investigation. The criminal inquiry will also continue in an effort to identify any other parties that may have been involved in the scheme.
This incident unfortunately brings the integrity and reputation of all jail officers into question. Union leadership has stepped forward and offered their assistance in resolving questions surrounding this incident.
C/O Post was released on an unsecured bail bond. His initial court appearance is scheduled for March 10, 2010.
C/O Post has been an employee of the Sheriff's Office since June of 2004.
According to Captain Don Goulet, the investigation was ongoing for less then 48 hrs, and the tip came about from an outside source. He explained that since there are criminal charges and an ongoing investigation, he could provide no further information at this time.
