Deering Oaks Park in partnership with the City of Portland as part of the 9/11 National Day of Service and Remembrance. Anyone who wishes can participate by meeting at the Deering Oaks Park bandstand from1:30PM to 4:00PM on September 11th for an afternoon of remembrance and joyful service. Freeport - The Freeport Flag Ladies will be holding their Annual 9-11-Tribute on Saturday September 11th from 8 to 9:30 am at the corner of Main and School Street in Freeport. It is held to honor the lives lost on 9-11, the men and women who serve this country and to celebrate the American Spirit. Everyone is invited to attend. Bring a flag or one will be provided on a first come basis. It is a wonderful event for children as well. |

Jun 8, 2010 - The Portland Museum of Art is participating in the Blue Star Museums Program, a partnership among Blue Star Families, the National Endowment for the Arts, and more than 750 museums in all 50 states to offer free admission to military personnel and their families from Memorial Day through Labor Day. The free admission program is available to any bearer of a Geneva Convention common access card (CAC), a DD Form 1173 ID card, or a DD Form 1173-1 ID card, which includes active duty military (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard), National Guard and Reserve members, and up to five immediate family members. |
Blue Star Families will enjoy the following summer exhibitions at the Portland Museum of Art: American Moderns: Masterworks on Paper from the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art, 1910–1960 (June 24 through September 12); Winslow Homer and the Poetics of Place (through September 6); Division and Discovery: Recent Work by Frederick Lynch (through July 11); and Anna Hepler: Makeshift (July 24 through October 12).
