State Police launch School Initiative

  • Local officers to be more visible in schools

MSAD 15 Superintendent Victoria Burns applauds the new program, and tells us what happens next.

- A new initiative from the Maine State Police will help to fill the void of a resource officer the district can no longer afford.

Styled after a pilot program that was developed by Lt. Gerard Madden, the commanding officer of Troop D in Thomaston, through the initiative one can expect to see officers on school grounds doing paperwork in their cruisers and having lunch with the students.

The program is not a substitute for having school resource officers on a full time basis, but is aimed at increasing the visibility of state troopers on school property and to help build positive rapport with school staff and students.
