Spinning and Blacksmithing Crafts Demonstrations

The R & R Spinners and blacksmith Tim Greene will demonstrate their respective skills at the Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village, Route 26, New Gloucester on Saturday, Sept. 11th beginning at 10am. The demonstrations are free and open to the public.

Book Arts Workshop

This workshop will introduce participants to the art of bookmaking. Each participant will make three sewn and folded books. Bonnie Faulkner, owner of Heron Point Gallery, will lead the class. 9:30 am to 4 pm. FEE: $40.00 (pre-registration required). (207) 926-4597. usshakers@aol.com.

Shaker Village Nature Hikes

Two guided nature hikes around and about Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village, Route 26, New Gloucester, ME are available on Saturday, Sept 11th- 10am and 1:30 pm. Enjoy the early fall foliage and learn much about one of the last large tracts of open space in Cumberland County. FEE: $5.00-adults; $2.00-children; under 6-free.

Knitting Workshop

Learn how to knit cable swatches at a knitting workshop from 9 AM to 12 Noon. For advanced beginners and up. FEE: $50.00 ( includes yarn, pattern and instruction) (pre-registration required).

Bring apples and containers, or apples may be purchased at Shaker Store. Special Event: Apple Pie Sale is in cooperation with New Gloucester Historical Society.

"My Town" Student Photo Contest

New Gloucester students in grades 5-12 are invited to participate in the "My Town" Student Photo Contest sponsored by the New Gloucester Historical Society. Photos must be new and show people or places in New Gloucester. The photos will be displayed in the New Gloucester History Barn. Top three places will be judged by town and school staff.
